Reading the numbers
Read parameter ranges and explore the character of neighboring styles.
Ranges describe a style, not an individual beer.
- Alcohol · ABV
- ABV measures alcohol by volume. A style range is not the measured alcohol content of every beer.
- Bitterness · IBU
- IBU is a bitterness measure. Malt sweetness, body and other factors affect perceived bitterness, so equal IBU values need not taste equally bitter.
- Color · SRM
- Color is an approximation. Light and glassware change its appearance.
- Original gravity · OG / Final gravity · FG
- OG and FG indicate specific gravity before and after fermentation. They are not percentages; the original decimal precision is retained.
How range filters work
Filters use interval overlap. An ABV filter of 4–5% includes styles whose ranges intersect 4–5%. It does not mean every beer in those styles falls within the filter.
How styles are grouped
The atlas contains 128 entries in 35 groups, covering established styles, historical traditions, regional styles, and specialty categories. Specialty IPA is a family overview, not an additional independent style.
